Have you ever thought why a simple life is more liberating and joyful?
Most people don’t think so because they love making everything too complex. They believe if you have free time, you must be either lazy or a loser.
Simplicity brings clarity.
We cannot solve our wrongdoing by doing more of it. This is why the solution is often hidden in doing less.
It is not about what you do, it is about what you don’t do.
Why is that so? We all have limited time and energy because these are finite resources. We must throw off the weight that slows us down, so we can move faster.
If you want to invest in anything, you must first decide what you will give up for. This requires a high level of awareness because you have to see what’s truly valuable.
How can you see if you are blind by anxiety and stress?
That is why you have to get rid of the thick fog that’s blocking you. Life can only be too complicated if you don’t have the eyes. Therefore, simplification is a must to regain your sight.
How can you simplify your life in two steps?
1- Find out what matters the most
2- Disregard the rest
When everything is clear in your mind, it’s easy to decide and go for it. How can you gain this mental clarity? This is what I am going to deliver in this article.
When you get rid of what no longer serves you, that will give you the edge to go for what’s important.
1- Get Rid of What Does Not Serve You
Let go of what no longer serves you, so you can attract more of what you actually need.
It does not matter what it is. It could be items, people, gadgets, thoughts, addictions…
The change starts with a sacrifice. To be able to breathe in, you must breathe out first. If you carry too much unnecessary burden, you can’t fly.
Just let them go.
Ask yourself whether it serves you or not, if the answer is no, then ditch it. Being attached to stuff make us more emotional than we need. It limits our freedom and disable us to see reality.
If there is no benefit for both sides, why should a friendship keep going? Why would you need the t-shirt that you have never worn for the last 3 years?
Why do you need extra food if you have fat on your belly? Why would you pay for cigarettes to diminish your wellness?
You just want it? What is the thing you want?
Mouth pleasure of disgusting food? Extra fat on your belly? Too much trauma and losing sanity? Losing your health? Lung, colon, breast cancer?
If it is obvious and you can’t cut it out, then you are a slave.
Emotions will make you blind and you will tend to believe you need them just to feel more comfortable.
It’s like gambling. If you are not in it, you see that everything is an illusion and the house always wins. Once you step in the game, something whispers in your ear the beautiful lie “You will win”.
When you are led by your emotions, they will manipulate you easily. They will sell you anything like a piece of cake.
Roger Swanson: You can’t sell a product without first making people feel bad.
Nick: Why not?
Roger Swanson: Because it’s a substitution game. You have to remind them that they’re missing something from their lives. Everyone’s missing something, right?
Nick: I guess.
Roger Swanson: Trust me. And when they’re feeling sufficiently incomplete, you convince them your product is the only thing that can fill the void. So instead of taking steps to deal with their lives, instead of working to root out the real reason for their misery, they go out and buy a stupid-looking pair of cargo pants.
From the movie Roger Dodger(2002)
2- Do The Thing
What’s the work of your day?
I know there might be many but one of them will always outshine others. Our goal is to simplify.
If we accomplish the most important task, the rest will follow because when you do it, it will bring the most value to your life.
You will feel alive, joyful and happy because it is a huge investment for your future. It can be writing an article, having a meeting, sending an email.
Most likely, it’s the hardest task among all. I don’t know what it is because only you can know it.
For me, it’s writing this article.
I eat, read, listen to podcasts, watch a movie, have a workout, etc. during the day but they are not my main work. I never focus on them because they are supplementary work.
If I could only write this article today, that’s alright because it’s still a win for me.
However, if I miss this article and do 999 other things, sorry, that’s still a loss because I can’t make up for it. I can’t even enjoy doing those things because of carrying the sorrow of defeat.
When I found this website, my motto was simple. I had to be someone who makes the world a better place. I was inspired by the quote I saw from the movie “Kingdom of Heaven”.
“What man is a man who does not make the world better?”
These articles are just my way of giving away for the universe. Well, if you have no idea about what it is, that’s completely normal. That means you must be on the way of finding it out whether you are aware or not.
But hey! Still, there must be one thing for you. Therefore, you must ask yourself “What’s the work of my day?”. I believe you must do what you can until your destiny is revealed.
You will be able to figure out where you are in life only by working. Don’t be the fool who is worried about the 37th step while he was only on the 3rd, yet.
Worrying is not your job. Worry hits you only if you are not taking care of the current situation. Do not deny your responsibilities.
Ask yourself this question every day, find the work of your day and do your best to accomplish it.
3- Do Less To Have More
We wonder why we are so stressed after loading up our brains with billions of bullshit stuff.
Social media, news, politics, sports, material stuff…
We worry about the things that we have 0 control over. They usually make no positive effect on our lives either. Do we really need them?
Actually, we can all live our lives with far less than what we think we can.
So, why do we think we need them? What’s the thing that causes us to ask for more?
We have been brainwashed to have more. What we absolutely don’t need is the brainwashing box which is called TV. That controls us all.
We need people, not things.
If everyone in the world would stop watching TV, the reality will be crystal clear that all we need is love and compassion.
However, our minds are wired to crave new information.
We want to know everything. What happened to Becky’s son, who dated with whom, who died in south Jamaica, what happened to the game between X and Y teams…
We want more and more but we forget that more stuff means more stress and worry. It makes our life more complicated than it has to be.
What happens when we overload our brains with all these unnecessary garbage info?
As a cause of overstimulating our minds, we lose our sanity. We focus on everything else rather than our lives. We forget our responsibilities because we are too busy with minding others.
This is the ultimate downfall.
We don’t even let our brain rest and rejuvenate by sleep. If we were babies, we would be crying all day long to nap more.
You know, babies sleep a lot because their brain is a lot more receptive than ours. Therefore, they need to digest all the stuff they learn to grow faster.
Sleep makes the growth available for us, even our muscles get bigger when we sleep.
4- Talk Less, Listen More
“When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.”
-The Dalai Lama
There is something magical about thoughts, once they are out, you can’t take them back. Your word is your prisoner until you talk but once you talk you become its prisoner.
If you don’t want to live like a prisoner, watch out what you are saying. Your words have the potential to turn your life into chaos. Think twice before you open your mouth.
Be quiet enough to hear yourself. Use the power of silence.
Silence is a great way to help with self-control. When you stop speaking, you can observe your thoughts. The quieter you become the more you are able to hear.
Let everything settle down in silence, so you can see them just as they are.
Hold your tongue, calm down, and then respectfully hold your ground.
5- Stay Away From Stimulation
Smartphones are the main reason for mental sickness today.
We are bombarded by new stimulus every new second. Social media accounts, text messages, calls, news, updates, app reminders, e-mails.
Our mind is always on survival mode.
It always forces us to make a decision and finally end up being decision fatigue. Are you going to comment, leave a like, choose a new video, subscribe, or stalk new people?
You always engage with things that don’t matter. Why? Just because of a stupid like or a notification? That notification is taking away the most precious asset you have from you.
It’s your attention. You always get distracted by a new stimulus and find yourself in a vicious loop. How can you get out of it?
You can’t. You should not get in that war. Why do you want to fight against nature? Your instincts are there to serve you.
Don’t make them your enemy.
6- Take More Time For Yourself
If you need to understand what your body, heart, and soul thrive, you must pay attention to yourself.
It’s too easy to feel lost when you are surrounded by others all the time. Yes, we are social creatures but nobody can tell you what you really want.
There is only one way to find it out…
You ask yourself and listen to the answers coming out.
Solo walks, long writing sessions, and other quiet, thoughtful activities can do wonders to figure out your true needs. Sometimes, all you need is to get away from distraction to see what’s in plain sight.
Stop the world and go within. Talk to yourself and listen to your inner dialogue. Don’t worry, you are not crazy.
People call it crazy because they don’t want to face reality. They keep themselves busy all the time just to avoid who they really are.
Don’t be one of them.
